TOPIC: Trauma, Executive Functioning and Positive Support Strategies
Tuesday November 5th 6:00-8:00pm, Chapel Hill Office
It is estimated that 90% of individuals with IDD have experienced trauma in their lifetime. Trauma impacts all aspects of development, from increased medical concerns, higher rates of Emergency Department use and hospitalization. Trauma’s effects can impact brain development leading to lifelong challenges. This training will explore trauma from a biopsychosocial perspective, looking at how the brain reacts during times of stress. We will also explore what it means to be trauma informed, to put proactive strategies in place and support individuals with IDD with positive interventions that allow for increased rapport building through crisis support.
Community Training Options Looking for additional topics? If you find an educational opportunity in the community and would like to receive credit for attending, please speak to your supervisor for approval.
The Carolina Institute for Developmental Disabilities (CIDD) 2019 Community Talk Series is always a valuable experience. These sessions are pre-approved for Quarterly Training credit, but you must RSVP to both the CIDD (click here) AND The Arc (as described above) to receive credit.
