Interested in hosting a Respect the Space Event at your school?
Triangle Disability & Autism Services partners with local public schools to educate their families and visitors about the importance of respecting Disability Parking!
Respect the Space school activities came from a need to educate parents who were using the Disability Parking as pick and drop off at a local high school. It was a way to point out the fact that they were breaking the law but allowed the advocates to educate and avoid confrontation. At that high school it worked! So we spoke with administration at Wake County Public School and offered to hold more.
Students and teachers decorate disability parking with chalk and other creative ways to express how they Respect the Space. We have partnered with several Wake County high schools during October – Disability History Awareness Month and are open to visit other Triangle schools to partner with this fun, educational program.
Cary High School, Enloe High School, Leesville High School, and Millbrook High School have all participated. We were excited to be partner with our first elementary school, Rashkis Elementary in Chapel Hill in 2019, taking the program to the other side of the Triangle and to a younger audience!
