Simply put- we are here for you.

For almost 70 years, The Arc has been the voice for children and adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (IDD) and autism throughout the United States. The 1950s were a time when most children with disabilities were ignored by society, and often institutionalized. Parents of these very special kids got organized, formed The Arc in our area, and began advocating to keep their children at home, send them to public school, and to educate the community about what it means to have a disability. Arc families also took the lead on developing advocacy and awareness while supporting their own loved ones.  Thus was born the largest grassroots movement to promote the rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

As you navigate our website, you will see a variety of programs and services to fit the needs of children and adults with disabilities in the Triangle area. This includes Durham, Orange, and Wake counties as well as some other areas. Our method for service delivery is one based on building person-centered plans and nurturing inclusive environments while providing the specialized services children and adults with IDD and autism need to be successful in their communities.

In 2022, after thoughtful collaboration with participants and families, staff and board of directors, our agency legally added a “Doing Business As” and are now knows as Triangle Disability & Autism Services. The reason was simple: there are so many individuals and families in need of disability support and services and also do not know where to go for answers. The new name makes things clearer for the community. As an Affiliated Chapter of The Arc, our beliefs and core values have not changed. We are still a trusted service provider to the disability community in the Triangle area.

Triangle Disability & Autism Services continues to expand its programming to serve more families: mental health services, day services, and our summer camp are examples of our commitment to service more individuals across the Triangle.

The Triangle Disability & Autism Services team includes caring, passionate, dedicated employees who provide services throughout the Triangle every day.  Our team goes to work every day knowing that they make a difference in the lives of children and adults with disabilities and autism.

Triangle Disability & Autism Services partners throughout the community. Partnerships with our public school systems, area universities and colleges, and local government agencies demonstrate the trust our community has in our mission. Our community partners are vast. To name a few- HOPE NC, Extraordinary Ventures, Meals On Wheels, SPCA, Marbles Kids Museum, the Carolina Hurricanes, the NC Museum of Art, as well as, The Arc of North Carolina and The Arc of the United States. Employing a simple philosophy that we reach more individuals and support more families through shared resources and combined efforts.

Now that you know a little about our history, now let’s see how we can support you or your loved one.
