Mental Health Services & Counseling

Kathy Mayer, LCMHC-A, 919-428-3315

Everyone’s story is unique, and everyone deserves an individual approach to their problems. I am a licensed clinical mental health counselor associate that specializes in working with adolescents and adults with IDD and concerns related to depression, anxiety, relational problems, grief, loss, and self-esteem issues. My theoretical orientation is eclectic and includes cognitive-behavioral, solution-focused, and dialectic behavioral therapy. Techniques that I utilize may include dialogue, psycho-education, relaxation, reframing of negative thoughts, role-play, and mindfulness activities.

I love building connections with my clients and giving them the tools needed to empower them to lead happy healthy lives. I believe that the therapeutic relationship is the cornerstone of the healing journey and want to have a collaborative relationship with my clients so that we may work as a team to improve quality of life and overall wellness.

I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and my Master’s Degree in Professional Counseling from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va. My passion for working with people with IDD comes from being the mother of a young man with autism.
